Longmont hires airport operations contractor

Oct. 22—Longmont has hired AMCG, the Aviation Management Consulting Group, to serve as the interim manager of Vance Brand Municipal Airport, according to Assistant City Manager Joni Marsh.

Marsh said in a Thursday email that the Centennial-based company is being paid $39,250 to manage and oversee Longmont's airport operations pending the city's hiring of a full-time manager to succeed the late David Slayter, who died Sept. 3.

Marsh said recruitment of applicants for the manager's position is to begin next month, and "I would like to have a new manager on board in the first quarter of 2022."

Marsh said AMCG's managing principal, Jeff A. Kohlman, was on-site at Longmont's airport as of Wednesday. She said telephone calls to the airport manager's office, 303-651-8431, will be answered by the city manager's staff, for now, but that AMCG "will be assisting with calls as needed."

AMCG's duties and responsibilities under its contract with Longmont, Marsh said, include:

— Managing and overseeing the airport's contractors and consultants, as well as the airport's operations.

— Enforcing airport rules, regulations, policies and standards.

— Advising the city on the management, maintenance and improvement of the airport's infrastructure.

— Serving as a point of contact with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Colorado Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics.

— Serving as liaison with airport users, tenants and community members about leases, questions, complaints and requests, as well as a point of contact with the public on any noise or operational concerns.

— Overseeing capital improvement projects and associated state and federal grants.
