Longmont to hold free Chinese New Year festival Saturday

Jan. 31—The City of Longmont will hold a free Chinese New Year celebration at Silver Creek High School on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m., featuring cultural games, food and live performances.

A traditional lion dance will kick off the event at 2 p.m., followed by performances from the Longmont Youth Symphony, the Bohua Chinese School, Denver Taiko, the Shaolin Hung Mei Kung Fu association and the Qi Zhou Design Studio. Activity booths will offer origami and brush painting alongside Chinese food samplings.

The festival is hosted by the Silver Creek Leadership Academy and presented by the Asian-Pacific Association of Longmont. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. at the school, located at 4901 Nelson Road.
