Longmont police arrest man suspected of crashing vehicle into garage, fleeing scene

Jan. 26—Longmont police on Tuesday arrested a man suspected of crashing a vehicle into a garage and then fleeing the scene on foot.

About 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, Longmont officers were dispatched to Mountain View Avenue and Spencer Street, across the street from Longmont United Hospital.

A 49-year-old man driving a 1999 Toyota 4Runner crashed into a garage, Longmont police spokesperson Robin Ericson said in an email. The man fled but was captured and arrested by officers.

The man was not seriously injured, and no passengers were in the vehicle, she said.

A motorist who drove by the scene following the crash said there were tire tracks in the snow across the front yard of the house, leading to the garage where the vehicle crashed.

Ericson said the residents of the house were not home at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is unclear and is being investigated by the Longmont Public Safety Department, she said.
