Jeweler moving out of Plaza, coming to Barnes & Noble Braintree location this winter

BRAINTREE – Long's Jewelers is preparing to turn the soon-to-close Barnes & Noble storefront off  Interstate 93 into a 10,000-square-foot jewelry store.

The new store will take Long's out of the South Shore Plaza, after decades  inside the mall. They say the move  will "add convenience" for the family-owned business's existing customers and help attract new ones.

The Barnes & Noble bookstore plans to close Sunday, May 22. Its lease expires May 31.

The 19,661-square-foot building sits on a 1.8-acre parcel near the South Shore Plaza. The building's new owner, the Stonegate Group of Natick, said it plans  to start renovations as soon as Barnes & Noble vacates.

Stonegate develops and manages residential and commercial properties.  It has more than 500,000 square feet of commercial space in the MetroWest area.

The proposed Braintree redevelopment won't be the only one in the area. Native Sun Wellness has proposed a medical marijuana store and cultivation operation in the former Pier 1 Imports store at 120 Granite St., across the street from Barnes & Noble. The proposal needs the approval of the state Cannabis Control Commission.
