Milwaukee radio veteran Andrea Williams is going to work in television full-time.

Williams, who has been a morning show host at WJMR-FM (98.3) for more than 20 years, is joining WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) as a specialty reporter.

She'll start her new gig in May, and be on the air in early June. In a statement announcing her hiring, Channel 4 said Williams' focus "will be finding those people in our community who don’t always make the news but have important stories to tell."

Williams, who's also news/public affairs director for WJMR's parent Milwaukee Radio Group, is no stranger to television. Since 2013, she's been executive producer and host of "Our Issues Milwaukee," a public affairs show airing on WVTV-TV (Channel 18) and WVTV-2 (Channel 24).

Williams, a Louisville, Kentucky, native, moved to Milwaukee in 1996 to work at WKKV-FM (100.7). In addition to her years in radio, she was the Bucks' in-arena host for 10 seasons.

In the statement from the station, Channel 4 news director Tim Vetscher said Williams "adds a different perspective and approach to storytelling and

is very plugged in to what makes this city tick and where there is room for improvement.”

It's the second time in a year that Channel 4 has tapped local radio talent to expand its news staff. Last March, the station tapped broadcasting veteran Cassandra McShepard to report on community stories for Channel 4's nightly "Milwaukee Tonight" program.

And it works both ways. In February, Vince Vitrano, co-anchor of Channel 4's morning news show, left to host "Wisconsin's Morning News" at WTMJ-AM (620).
