Longtime anchor Andy Fales is leaving morning news and switching shifts at WHO 13

Morning anchor Andy Fales is leaving the early wakeup alarm behind, but he’s not changing careers — or channels — at the metro area's NBC station WHO 13.

Fales hosted his last Channel 13 morning broadcast on Jan. 6 alongside Calyn Thompson and meteorologist Megan Salois.

The Emmy Award-winning television personality is moving shifts and joining the Channel 13 anchor desk on Sunday evenings while returning live to the station’s sports show "SoundOff" featuring Keith Murphy. The father of two is well-known among Channel 13 viewers for his segment on "SoundOff," “What’s Bugging Andy?” He left that segment in 2014.

The avid outdoorsman started his career in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and switched from sports to general news coverage at the station in 2008.

Justin Surrency, the University of Northern Iowa football alum and WHO 13 anchor who covered the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo for the station’s parent company Nexstar, will replace Fales in the morning.

Surrency first joined the station in July 2015 and previously worked on-air in Topeka, Kansas, according to a station bio. The St. Paul, Minnesota, native played wide receiver with the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings.

Surrency will host an updated “Today in Iowa” program alongside Thompson and Salois following the departure of former morning anchor Jodi Long.
