BOWIE, Md. (DC News Now) — Ravens fans are excited to see the first AFC Championship game played in Baltimore since Richard Nixon was president way back in 1971.

It’s creating a lot of excitement for super fans like the Cervenka’s in Bowie.

Purple Friday: Ravens fans rally before Baltimore, Kansas City game

When you walk into the basement of the Cervenka’s family you see photos of Baltimore Ravens football players and you would assume they’re just fans. But it’s not until you notice the Baltimore Ravens lamp, blanket, a napkin holder and a photo of Bill Cervenka’s holding the old Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl trophy, that’s when you realize their home is true Ravens territory.

“It’s just fun. It’s just a part of our lives as Ravens fans,” said Ronnie Cervenka. “It’s just something that you start and grow with and it’s fun to watch them succeed.”

The Bowie couple said they donated money to help build the team, and they’ve been fans since the very beginning. They even went to first Ravens game in 1996.

“We rented a limousine and picked up friends and went to the game. All dressed up in fancy clothes to go to that game at the memorial stadium,” she said.

Game after game they showed up no matter what, until they got a little older but that didn’t stop them from supporting.

“We watch every game. We go to a restaurant if we have to to see the game,” Cervenka said.

This weekend’s AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chief’s isn’t any different, but Ronnie says she does feel a little nervous.

“I’m scared. I want them to make it. I want them to go and reach that goal [but also] excited and over the top. I hope they make it, we’re going to be here cheering them on,” she said.

The couple says they’re doing their part to ensure the Ravens make it to the Super Bowl.

“I have different shirts, I have all kinds. I put one on every day for good luck I’m building up in anticipation of the game and wishing them luck and letting everybody know I’m a Ravens fan,” she said.

Cervenka added they are big fans for every Maryland team. From the University of Maryland, to the Orioles, and they were huge fans of the Baltimore Colts football team before they were sold.
