A longtime football coach with Mid-Valley ties is returning to the Salem area.

Shane Hedrick, former football coach and athletic director at Class 5A Central, is leaving Oregon City to become football coach at Cascade.

Oregon City went 5-6 last season at the Class 6A level, and reached the quarterfinals of the OSAA Columbia Cup bracket.

Cascade, under coach Tyler Turner, went 4-6 last season and lost in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.

Hedrick guided Central for 19 seasons, including 15 consecutive seasons from 2004 to 2018. He also coached the Panthers from 1999 to 2002. He was an assistant coach at Western Oregon in 2003.

Since leaving Central, he has coached at Willamina, Oregon City and now Cascade.

“Cascade has a tremendous history of producing great student athletes,” Hedrick said. “The leadership is second to none, and the community support is off the charts. The core values and commitment to excellence is what I seek more than ever. I’m truly blessed to have the opportunity to lead the Cougar football team.”
