Longtime CNA sportswriter to be inducted in Creston Wrestling Hall of Fame

Jun. 23—Creston News Advertiser sportswriter Larry Peterson will be honored in October alongside wrestlers and a coach as the class of 2023 Creston Wrestling Hall of Fame inductees.

Peterson continues to cover Creston area sports for the CNA with not only coverage of the area wrestling teams but statewide and national wrestling events.

The induction will be Saturday evening, October 21 at The Eagles Club in Creston. This year's CWHOF Inductees will be Darrell Frain, Kim Kirkman, Peterson and the Willets Brothers.

In conjunction with the inductions, CHS/COM Wrestling Team reunions for the graduating years ending in three; 1963, 1973, 1983, 1993, 2003, 2013 will be held.

Special notice will be given to the 1962-3 team, the second CHS wrestling squad.

Darrell Frain guided Creston-OM wrestling to state dominance during his 19-year head coaching tenure with 19 state individual champions, three state team championships, 20 state trophies and 325-67 dual record

Kim Kirkman was sixth at state and a team leader on the 1972 "break out" CHS wrestling season with team titles in all tournaments leading up to a sixth-place state tournament team finish.

The four Willets brothers had a great impact on the early Panther wrestling squads from 1961 through 1969 as well as contributing to CHS/COM and area wrestling for many years to follow.

Team reunions and the induction ceremony will begin with a 4 p.m. social, reunion team recognitions, steak or chicken breast meal followed with the induction ceremonies.
