Longtime El Paso high school basketball coach Tim McNally officially retired from coaching on Monday afternoon, telling his boys team at Socorro he was calling it quits after more than 30 years coaching.

McNally was successful, winning 304 games and in eight years at Socorro, he guided the program to two playoff appearances after the school had gone two decades without making the playoffs.

"Our program returned to being competitive," McNally said. "I always talked to the kids about being competitive and our kids fought hard every night. I enjoyed my time at Socorro, I was fortunate to be around great kids and a great staff."

McNally, 57, also coached at Coronado, Jefferson, Bowie and San Elizario. In college at Texas Tech, he was a student assistant for four years.

"We were able to get our facilities here at Socorro to where they are top notch and there is stability," McNally said. "I've had some great mentors in my career coaches like Mike Harper and Bobby Cordova, who helped so much along the way. Players such as Tom Gamboa, Anthony Delgado and Matt Pena were among the best. But I was fortunate to be around lots of good kids and teams."
