Longtime Sumner County educator and school board member Pat Brown dies

District 9 Sumner County School Board member Patricia Brown died on Tuesday, according to the district.

Brown had been a school board member in Sumner County since 2014 and had started her third term. Brown retired from Sumner County Schools after more than 30 years as an educator in 2002. Brown was a classroom teacher and spent nine years as the principal of E.B. Wilson High School, according to the district.

“Pat Brown spent her life as an advocate for education in Sumner County,” Sumner County Director of Schools Del Phillips said. “She had a special passion for students who needed a bit of extra encouragement to be successful in the classroom. She was always focused on what was best for the students.  She will be greatly missed.”

“Pat Brown brought a unique perspective from a veteran educator and a passion for the Gallatin community to our School Board,” Sumner County School Board Chairman Tim Brewer said.  “The Sumner County Board of Education and Sumner County Schools mourns her loss with the entire Gallatin community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Brown’s family.”

Visitation is scheduled for 2-6 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 22, at Gallatin Country Club and at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 23, at Gallatin First United Methodist Church. Funeral services are scheduled at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 23, at Gallatin First United Methodist Church.

A Sumner County Board of Education meeting scheduled for Tuesday was canceled to be rescheduled.
