Hockey

Tri-City Americans forward Parker Bell was signed to an amateur tryout contract with the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL. The Wranglers are an affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Calgary Flames.

Bell is a fifth-round pick of the Flames from the 2022 NHL Draft.

The 19-year-old forward played in 55 games this season for the Americans, scoring 25 goals and 39 assists.

The Wranglers have three games remaining on their regular-season schedule.

Bell has one year of eligibility remaining in the Western Hockey League.

Meanwhile, Bell’s Americans teammate, Jalen Luypen, was assigned to the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs for the team’s three games left on its schedule.

Luypen was a 2021 selection by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2021 NHL Draft. The Americans traded for him last summer with the Edmonton Oil Kings, and he also signed a three-year, entry level contract with the Blackhawks last August.

The 20-year-old forward had surgery and didn’t join the Americans until late December. But he still finished the season strong, scoring 18 goals and 21 assists in 38 games for Tri-City.

Former Tri-City American defenseman Juuso Valimaki finished the season with the Arizona Coyotes with a 1-year, $1 million contract extension.

The 24-year-old played in 77 games for the Coyotes, scoring four goals and 30 assists.
