HENDERSONVILLE - A longtime Hendersonville Times-News newspaper carrier died following a sudden illness while on vacation with his family on Sept. 16.

Jarrett Stuckey of Mills River delivered papers in the Carolina Village area for the past seven years and had other routes for several years before that one. He was 36.

Jeffrey Taylor is the district manager who is in charge of newspaper deliveries in Hendersonville and Asheville. He told the Times-News on Oct. 2 that he was stunned when he heard about Stuckey's death.

"Two weeks ago I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of our carrier who delivered to the Carolina Village area in Hendersonville. Jarrett Stuckey had been delivering this route since 2017," Taylor said. "My understanding is he had another route before this one. Jarrett was an outstanding young man. He was the perfect carrier, and he never complained about the weather we delivered in."

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family. On its website, many people have shared comments about Stuckey.

Thomas Horton wrote, "Seen him come through on paper deliveries every morning, always with a smile and energy. Shocking to learn he’d passed so young. My sincerest condolences to his family."

In addition to his parents, Stuckey is survived by his wife Kasey Hendrix Stuckey; two daughters, Tatum and Elliott Stuckey; two sons, Asher and Iain Stuckey; four sisters Christina Moses (Jesse), Julianna Shoemaker (Richard), Katie Stuckey and Margaret Stuckey; four brothers, Carson Stuckey (Paige), Will Stuckey (Emily), Alex Stuckey and Ben Stuckey; maternal grandparents, David and Ann Wilson; paternal grandparents, Jim and Barbara Stuckey as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7 at Faith Memorial Chapel at Cedar Mountain with Pastor Noel Hendrix officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held on the Chapel property. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to make a contribution to the Jarrett Stuckey Memorial Educational Fund to help facilitate the continued education of his children. Checks should be made payable to Kasey Stuckey. The contributions may be given or mailed to Carson Stuckey, 349 View Rock Lane, Hendersonville, N.C 28791.
