A look back at Tennessee’s 2010 victory against Ole Miss
Throughout its tradition-rich history, Tennessee has captured some monumental victories.
This season, each week, Vols Wire will look back at one of Tennessee’s memorable games against its upcoming opponent.
The Volunteers (4-2, 2-1 SEC) will host Ole Miss (4-1, 1-1 SEC) Saturday at Neyland Stadium.
Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT and the game will be televised by SEC Network.
Saturday’s contest marks the 65th meeting between the Vols and Rebels. Tennessee holds a 44-19 advantage in the series and the two teams have played to one tie.
This installment will revisit Tennessee’s 52-14 victory over the Rebels on Nov. 13, 2010.
The Vols, under the direction of first-year head coach Derek Dooley, had struggled, opening the season with a 2-6 record. Tennessee was 0-5 in conference play when Ole Miss and head coach Houston Nutt came calling.
The Vols, however, wasted little time reversing their fortunes against Ole Miss.
UT opened an early 21-0 lead, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter.
Tyler Bray had two touchdown passes in the frame and Eric Gordon returned an interception 46 yards for a score.
From there the Vols would never look back in what would be Dooley’s signature win in his brief tenure in the program, which did not last three full seasons. It was his only league win over an opponent other than Kentucky or Vanderbilt.
Tennessee, which led 31-14 at halftime, posted a dominant performance.
Bray went 19-of-34 for 323 yards and three touchdowns.
Tauren Poole ran for two touchdowns and Prentiss Wagner returned an interception for a touchdown. Hunter had a pair of scoring receptions in the contest and Denarius Moore also caught a touchdown pass.
