A look back at Week 5 in girls basketball: Glastonbury is on a roll, Bolton has won five straight, Mercy falls to Hamden

After starting the season 0-2, the Glastonbury girls basketball team has won nine straight games, including a win over Conard last week, after losing to the Red Wolvesearlier this season.

“We’ve been slowly getting better and better as the season progresses,” Glastonbury coach Chris Vozzolo said. “We got a lot of tough games left but things are going well.”

The Guardians lost to Northwest Catholic 39-34 Dec. 13 and 53-49 to Conard Dec. 16. Last Friday, they beat Conard in the rematch, 35-32.

“We opened up with Northwest Catholic and I guess we just weren’t ready for it that night then we lost a real tough one to a good Conard team,” Vozzolo said. “There’s probably 10 teams in [the CCC] that can beat each other on a given night. We’re definitely susceptible to either end of that.

“Give Alyssa Healey, our senior captain, credit, she played a great defensive game [against Conard]. It was definitely a tough defensive battle back and forth. Tough night to make hoops. We wanted to slow them down. The girls made a bunch of stops all night long and rebounded the ball well.”
