Jan. 27—MORGANTOWN — Here is a look at some of the bills introduced on Wednesday, Jan. 26. Local sponsors and cosponsors, if any, are noted.

HB 488, to restore voting rights to convicted felons upon release from prison. Sen. Mike Caputo, D-Marion, co-sponsor.

HB 4398, the Democratic proposal to reduce the sales tax to 4.75 % with future reductions linked to state revenue surpluses.

HB 4407, to require photo ID to vote by mail or absentee.

HB 4414, to prohibit colleges and universities in West Virginia from requiring the COVID-19 vaccine or associated booster shot as a prerequisite for attending in-person class. Delegate Guy Ward, R-Marion, co-sponsor.

HB 4415, to establish magnet schools on the campuses of colleges and universities, called the Katherine Johnson Academy ; under collaboration agreements, students attending a magnet school would receive both college credit and credit towards their high school diploma for courses they successfully complete. Delegate Phil Mallow, R-Marion, co-sponsor.
