A look at what charter schools have closed in Marion County

Marion County has seen 31 charter schools shut down their operations since Indiana passed a law in 2001 allowing the creation of charter schools.

The Indianapolis Mayor's Office of Education Innovation authorizes the majority of Indianapolis' charter school as they are only allowed to authorize charter schools within the city's borders.

Here's a list of Marion County charter schools that have closed along with the reason why, according to the charter authorizers' websites, accountability reports or records requests. The Indiana Charter School Board is referred to as ICSB in the chart below.

The listed reasons for closure reflect the words that school officials used in their accountability reports or on their websites when explaining why they closed.

In some instances, like Fall Creek Academy and Imagine Indiana Life Sciences Academy West, one school was authorized by two different authorizers during its existence or closed for a short period of time before opening back up again.
