"Good Morning America" provided signs for audience members to hold up.

One of the South Shore's own was surprised with his own segment on "Good Morning America" this morning. Teacher, volunteer, dad - and hero to his daughter.

A retired music and special education teacher, Ken Abbott taught for more than 20 years in Weymouth and has extra skills in reading and math. Since September, he has been volunteering at the school two days a week in his daughter Melissa Staffier's kindergarten class. What a dad.

Quite the community came together to pull off this surprise. And a surprise it was. Abbott said he only fully realized what was happening as he entered the gym Friday morning to the cheering of his family, friends, coworkers and more.

And as if being on GMA wasn't enough, the show also gave him Red Sox tickets for later this summer, where he'll be throwing out the first pitch. His grandson, Drew Staffier, presented him with the tickets. Abbott said his grandson, who lives in Weymouth, is "a great pitcher." Abbott said he looks forward to having "all this time to practice" with his grandson.

But wait, there's more. GMA also gave him a trip to Aulani Disney in Hawaii.Even his wife was in on the whole surprise. And in time for Father's Day, too. It's quite the story. Read here to see how they pulled this off.
