A look at upcoming Fourth of July celebrations

ROSS COUNTY― The booms, pops and crackles of fireworks will be heard all around Ross County this weekend as people celebrate the Fourth of July holiday.

Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney said that thanks to the Rotary Club and other sponsors the celebration will be "bigger and better." This year the firework budget is around $50,000 exceeding years prior. Feeney is excited about all of the fun events taking place in the park as well.

"It will be a fun full day in Chillicothe," said Feeney.

One of the pyrotechnicians for this event, Brian Knoles, said this year is sure to be beautiful and vibrant. He said this year the show will be computer ran so it will be synced up to music playing on the radio.

Here is a schedule for events happening in celebration of Independence Day:

Sunday, July 2

Adena Mansion and Gardens will host a 19th Century Independence Day Celebration at 2 p.m. July 2 with readings of portions of the Declaration of Independence, patriotic poems, a presentation of the flag, a toast to George Washington and a 21-gun salute.

Tuesday, July 4

The Harrison Township Fire and Rescue will hold its annual fish fry at 11 a.m. at the Walnut Creek Campground and Resort at 2342 Walnut Creek Road.

The Chillicothe Trolley will run from 2 to 8 p.m. on its normal downtown route from the library to Yoctangee Park with several stops in between.

Chillicothe Community Day will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Bolmer Field (Diamond 2) in Yoctangee Park. The free event will feature a car show, food trucks, kid-friendly activities, local vendors and more. The event is presented by DARE and the Chillicothe Police Department.

The Fireworks Pool Party will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Donald M. Smith Memorial Pool in Yoctangee Park. Individuals may purchase tickets through the Parks and Recreation Department on the first floor of the City Administrative Building located at 35 South Paint Street. Tickets are $10 per person, children ages 2 and under enter for free. Swimming, food and refreshments are included with entry. Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 740-772-5626 with any questions. Tickets are limited.

The city fireworks will be set off at approximately 9:45 p.m. July 4. The best place to view the fireworks is on the floodwall in Yoctangee Park.
