Fashion can be mind-blowing at any time. But there's only one night a year that we are sure to catch a glimpse of jaw-drop worthy, over-the-top fashion moments, at one of the most anticipated annual evenings of celebrity gathering and fashion: the Met Gala which took place the first Monday in May, as per tradition.

The Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, began in 1948 as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute (hence its formal name of the Costume Institute Benefit), celebrating its major annual exhibit opening.

In the years since it has grown not only to be a staple of the fashion scene, but also an embracing of the social and art worlds as well. Anna Wintour, Condé Nast artistic director, a Met trustee and the event's co-chair since 1995, has made the front page event one of the most successful fundraisers, bringing in exclusive invite-only guests, including from fashion and film, society and sports, and politics.

Last year, the event raised $17.4 million for the Institute. And who could forget host Blake Lively's Versace dress – a tribute to iconic New York architecture – which changed colors in front of fans' eyes? Plus, of course, there was Kim Kardashian's slew of show-stopping carpet looks – from her head-to-toe black Balenciaga getup that covered her face to 2022's Marilyn Monroe dress moment.

This year, Michaela Coel, Dua Lipa, Penelope Cruz and Roger Federer co-hosted the extravagant event alongside Wintour. The benefit honored late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at 85.
