We looked at Mapleton Local Schools' salaries for fiscal 2023 - here is what we found

Salaries of the Mapleton Local Schools' employees for fiscal year 2023 totaled to $2,667,381.91 for the 74 district employees.
Scott Smith, the superintendent of Mapleton Local Schools, was the highest paid employee within the district with a salary of $101,875.97. He is also the only employee to have a salary of more than $100,000. The second paid employee is high school principal and director of the online learning academy, Corey Kline, with a $84,397.25 salary. The third highest paid employee (and first female) is treasurer of Mapleton Local Schools, Kathleen Wiley. The highest paid teacher in the district is Steve Coffey, who teaches 6th and 7th grade science.
The district experienced a tough blow during the Nov. 2023 election when its latest levy failed to pass. Of the 2,362 voters, 1,349 voted against the levy (57.11 percent). The other 1,013 voted in favor. Had the current 0.75% income tax over five years levy passed, it would have generated $1 million annually and would have been used for the district's expenses. This includes personnel, programs, services, equipment and supplies.
Regarding the levy failure and possible future budget cuts, Smith said: "There aren't any updates at this time. I expect final decisions will be made over January to March regarding specific reductions and increases to academic and athletic fees for the 2024-2025 school year."
The district notably has yet to pass a new levy in more than 30 years. Also during the Nov. 2023 election cycle, three new Board of Education members were elected. They are Kathy Goon, Fred Hartzler and Vince Hartzler.
