Who doesn’t love brunch? It’s a make-it-what-you-want it meal that can be as breakfasty or boozy as you’d like. Restaurants that offer this meal are booming, so it’s no surprise that a few local spots have added it in recent weeks and months. Here are a few of them to check out.

The Sandspur, Carolina Beach

After opening at 103 S. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach earlier this year, they’ve added brunch to their fresh and flexible menu. “We have amazing, creative brunch specials that change weekly,” said Clay O’Neal, one of the owners. That might be pork cheek hash and or chicken and chorizo with sunny-side-up eggs. Plus Bloody Mary specials and sparkling wine on tap for mimosas. It’s usually 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays, but there's a special oyster brunch Oct. 22 beginning at 11 a.m.

Salt Fish Restaurant and Tiki Bar, Carolina Beach

Also in Carolina Beach, this popular island-themed restaurant has a new brunch service, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays at 718 N. Lake Park Blvd. The eclectic menu includes a bratwurst plate, deviled eggs, smash burger sliders, poke, and egg-topped coconut rice bowl.

Covey, Wilmington

The new spot in midtown Wilmington also now has brunch, with the option of indoor or patio seating (the latter of which is equipped with a fireplace and heaters when the weather is cool). The menu options are seasonal but might include house-made cinnamon rolls with orange glaze and candied pecans, a Fall Squash French Toast, egg salad tartine, as well as traditional favorites like Eggs Benedict, shrimp and grits, and quiche. It’s 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays at 1610 Tiburon Drive.

Riverside Kitchen & Bar, Castle Hayne

This restaurant is the newest addition to the River Bluffs community in Castle Hayne. It offers new American fusion fare at 1030 Chair Road, including Sunday brunch with a rotating selection of specials. You might see Berries & Cream Belgian Waffles, a Spam Skillet with veggies and scrambled eggs, as well as mimosa and Bloody Mary specials. It’s 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and reservations are recommended.

The brunch menu at Dram Yard restaurant in downtown Wilmington includes the Salmon Gravlax, with a poached egg, hollandaise and breakfast potatoes.

Dram Yard, Wilmington

In downtown Wilmington’s ARRIVE hotel, this restaurant has also been serving a regular brunch menu 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The menu has dishes like Salmon Gravlax, with a poached egg and hollandaise, a croissant breakfast sandwich, a toasted farro dish with vegetables and grapefruit, and catfish and grits. It’s at 101 S. Second St.

Epicurean Bistro, Wilmington

As this restaurant at 1978 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, transitions to a hybrid concept with its sister restaurant Sweet n Savory Café, you can also find a Sunday brunch menu with a crab cake Benedict, quiche and a Bistro Burger.

Plus brunch updates: Several other restaurants, like Bluewater Waterfront Grill, are continuing to tweak their brunch service. The popular Wilmington restaurant Henry’s (2508 Independence Blvd.) has added some new brunch items to their Sunday menu and so has Fizzy Janes at 614 W. West St. in Southport with items like Pumpkin Pancakes with a caramelized apple syrup and a Hatch chili cornbread. In downtown Wilmington, Floriana restaurant added a Croissant French Toast, with bananas and a rum sauce, on Saturday and Sunday.
