Looking to work for the city of Wichita? These are its highest-paying hybrid openings

Though inflation persists across the U.S., Kansas’ workforce appears to be in solid shape heading into the summer.

According to the Kansas Department of Labor’s most recent monthly labor market report, the Sunflower State’s unemployment rate for May clocked in at roughly 2.9% — unchanged from April. Although private sector jobs decreased by roughly 2,200 over the month, Kansas saw approximately 700 government jobs hit the market in May.

If you’re still on the hunt for a job with steady pay and strong benefits, all from the comfort of home, working for the government might be your best bet. The city of Wichita is advertising a handful of full-time jobs with hybrid or flexible work schedules.

Here’s a look at some of the highest-paying hybrid jobs that are currently open and advertised publicly through Kansas’ online portal as of late June.

Common tasks to support those goals include peer reviews, collaboration with departments, reconciliation to financial statements and more.

According to the job posting, employees in Wichita’s budget office work a hybrid schedule that brings workers to the office at least three days of the week, leaving room for remote work from home.

Qualifications for this role include a bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or public administration, plus a preferred master’s degree in public administration or business administration. At least three to five years of related experience in budget development or financial administration is listed among the requirements, too.

“This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the fiscal integrity and stability of the city’s financial resources,” the job posting reads.

Employees in this office have the option of working a hybrid schedule “depending on work assignments and director discretion,” the job posting reads. Evenings and weekends may be required during peak times or based on organizational needs.

Requirements for this role include a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related field, plus an advanced degree, which is “highly desirable.” Candidates should also have at least five years of experience in financial management and reporting, plus familiarity with laws and regulations and in-depth knowledge of accounting principles and budgeting, among other skills.

Capital improvement coordinator

Salary: $59,263 to $109,004 annually

Agency: City of Wichita

According to the job posting, this role largely revolves around the financial modeling of revenue, project financing and capital project costs funded by utility revenues and taxes.

Much like other the financial openings, this role works a hybrid schedule. A successful candidate would work in the office for about three days a week, while working remotely for the remainder.

Qualifications for this role include a degree in finance, business administration or public administration, and a master’s degree in public or business administration is preferred. Candidates should have experience with “progressively responsible or complex work” in capital project modeling and management, budget development or financial administration.

Senior budget analyst

Salary: $54,655 to $97,176 annually

Agency: City of Wichita

Description: As a senior budget analyst in this role, you’d help monitor the city’s internal cost models, which are used to help allocate funds across services. An employee in this role would also serve as the budget office’s primary contact for departments that are funded primarily by federal grants, which require collaborations with departments regarding financial sustainability, the job description reads.

Though work is primarily conducted within city hall, a hybrid schedule is possible. A worker in this role could also work entirely on-site if desired.

Graduation from a four-year college with a major or minor in finance, business administration or public administration leads the qualifications for this role. A master’s degree in public or business administration is also preferred on top of relevant in public administration roles with an emphasis on budgeting or financial management.
