If your dad loves coffee and bourbon, why not give a gift that marries the two?  Memphis-based roaster Vice & Virtue's Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee fits the bill.

“There are plenty of coffee roasters barrel-aging coffee these days, but not many specialty coffee roasters. Many seem to take a lower quality bean and use barrel-aging to ‘upgrade’ it,” Vice & Virtue owner Tim Perkins said. “We wanted to see what would happen if we took a really great coffee and paired it with a fantastic whiskey — Blue Note Bourbon, which has the added benefit of also being local. The end result sings with classic Tennessee Whiskey notes, green apple and vanilla.”

This coffee pairs well with chocolate, hence the popularity of the bourbon mocha Vice & Virtue serves at its café in the Arrive Memphis hotel. But it’s equally delicious as a classic cup of joe.

Vice & Virtue coffee beans can be purchased at the café in the Arrive Memphis hotel (477 S. Main St.) or online at vicevirtuecoffee.com. Delivery for online purchases is free within Shelby County.

Jayda’s Hot Honey from Cranes Nest River Apiaries

Sweet and spicy. That's the best way to describe Jayda's Hot Honey from Cranes Nest River Apiaries.

“I think what makes our hot honey special is the balanced blend of fresh and dried peppers used to infuse the honey,” said Gus Mitchell, beekeeper and Cranes Nest River Apiaries owner. “A quality pepper has many flavor profiles besides heat. For example, floral and citrus notes, which blend well in the honey.”

This honey with a kick was a project inspired by his niece Jayda Duckett. The honey makes a delicious garnish to fried chicken, a cheese board and — Jayda’s favorite — pepperoni pizza.

Cold cheese dip. It’s totally a Memphis thing. Arbo’s Cheese Dip joined the Memphis-made cheese dip market back in 2021, and this one has a spicy twist thanks to a secret blend of peppers and spices.

Owner Andrew Arbogast, who created the dip based on his dad’s family recipe, said his new favorite way to eat Arbo’s is with pork rinds.

“I prefer the regular (versus spicy) pork rinds since it allows the bold and zesty flavors of the dip to stand out, and the shape of the rinds makes it a great vessel for a generous amount of Arbo’s,” said Arbogast, who recommended Hog Wild East’s house-made pork rinds.

Arbo’s Cheese Dip can be found at stores across Memphis, including Lucchesi’s, Oxbeau, High Point Grocery, Charlie’s Meat Market, South Point Grocery, Grind City Brewery, Joe’s Wine & Liquor, Cash Saver and Thomas Meat & Seafood.
