Looking for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department? Head north, folks

Need to get a police report, speak to a Fort Lauderdale officer or file a complaint?

You can now head to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s temporary headquarters at 1515 W. Cypress Creek Road in the northern part of the city.

The building, once entirely occupied by Kaplan University, will serve as the police department’s home base for at least two years, until a new $140 million headquarters opens in 2025.

The department abandoned its old headquarters at 1300 W. Broward Blvd. in July, not long after construction crews broke ground on the new headquarters. Several employees who work in the building said they could not take the noise, so city officials went on a hunt for new digs.

In September, city commissioners agreed to lease space in the Kaplan building for $1.5 million a year.

Tuesday marked the first day that residents and visitors had access to the department’s temporary headquarters.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department encourages the public to visit the agency’s temporary new home to interact with officers and staff.
