Great Road Day
Great Road Day takes place Saturday, Sept. 32, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Lincoln. What does it involve? Well, 10 properties along Great Road, one of the oldest highways in the country, invite visitors to an open house to get a peek inside these rare sites, ranging from 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Take a self-guided tour of the sites at the Great Road Heritage Campus: Hearthside House, Pullen’s Corner Schoolhouse, Hannaway Blacksmith Shop and the Moffett Mill. The other participating sites include the Friends Quaker Meetinghouse, the Arnold House, Mt. Moriah Lodge, Northgate and the Arnold’s Bakery. The Valentine Whitman House, private residence, offers an outdoor visit to learn its history. Event is free.
Ocean State Bluegrass Festival
The fourth Ocean State Bluegrass Festival and Pick-Nic takes place Friday, Sept. 22, through Sunday, Sept. 24th at Frerichs Farm in Warren. The event is sponsored by the Rhode Island Bluegrass Alliance. The event includes camping, workshops, food, raffles and bluegrass shows.
National Alpaca Farm Days
Visit Hidden Nook Alpacas in North Smithfield on Sept. 23 and 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Alpaca Farm Days. Meet the alpacas face-to-face, feel their soft fleece and shop local vendors at this small hobby farm in North Smithfield. (Check their Facebook page for updates regarding the weather.)
Fall Visitors Weekend at West Place Animal Sanctuary
West Place Animal Sanctuary in Tiverton has postponed its Fall Visitors Weekend to Saturday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 8. Interactive and educational 90-minute tours will leave every 30 minutes, and guests will be among the first to welcome a baby calf who is only weeks old and was just rescued in late August. Visitors will also see the progress on two major construction projects that are transforming the sanctuary and the historic 8-acre farm property. Registration is open to all and advance online registration is recommended at https://www.westplace.org/visitors-weekends. Tickets are $15 for children and $24 for adults.
