The 2023-24 academic year is almost here, but there’s still plenty of time to find a job working at a local school district in Centre County.

Right now, openings are plentiful for job-seekers interested in teaching and coaching work, custodial operations, administrative functions and more. Available employment opportunities include part-time gigs, full-time roles and salaried positions — some of which don’t require post-secondary education.

Here’s a brief look at some of the current job openings spread throughout Centre County’s five major public school districts.

State College Area School District

The area’s most populated school district doubles as Centre County’s fourth-largest employer, according to the State College Area School District’s website. The district is hiring for nearly 40 positions before the school year begins.

Highlights among the openings include opportunities for kitchen aides, custodians, substitute nurses, secretaries, lifeguards and more. Open coaching positions range from girls’ high school wrestling to co-ed middle school soccer, while several opportunities seek paraprofessionals to work with students at lunch, recess and in the classroom. Bellefonte Area School District

Bellefonte Area School District lists more than three dozen open employment opportunities as the school year approaches.

At a glance, posted opportunities include roles for cafeteria aides, library clerks, maintenance workers, custodians and mechanics. Several districtwide substitute roles are available for prospective nurses, teachers, van drivers and custodians, among other positions.

Those interested in coaching might consider applying for roles covering high school girls’ lacrosse, middle school baseball, high school swimming, girls’ basketball, varsity softball and more. These open roles, generally offered as part-time opportunities, can pay up to $5,500 per year, according to the school district’s jobs portal.
