Looking for a license, permit? Gallatin's Driver Services Center is closed. Now what?

The Gallatin Driver Services Center, at 855 North Blue Jay Way, has been closed for remodeling with plans to reopen in mid-October, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced in a press release.

Plans call for the addition of extra parking, a lobby expansion and more workspaces, among other notable improvements, according to the state.

During the remodel, residents can visit driver services mobile units, Sumner County’s two self-service kiosks, other driver service centers in Middle Tennessee or online services at tn.gov/safety/driver-services/online.html, the release notes.

Here's where to go and what to know:

Sumner County Self-Service Kiosks

  • Hendersonville - 101 Maple Dr. North. Open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday

  • Sumner County Clerk - 355 N. Belvedere Dr., Room 105. Open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

Driver Services mobile units will be set up at Volunteer State Community College in Parking Lot K, at 650 Enterprise Drive in Gallatin, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday until the Gallatin center reopens.

Road skills and vision testing, obtaining a regular driver's license, commercial driver's license, REAL ID, photo ID issuance and updating, replacing or renewing driver’s licenses can all be done at mobile units.

Several transactions can be completed at self-service kiosks, including:

  • renew a handgun carry permit (enhanced only),

  • order a duplicate handgun carry permit (enhanced, lifetime and concealed carry),

  • upgrade to a lifetime handgun carry permit,

  • pay full reinstatement fees (partial payment plans are not accepted),

  • reissue a driving privilege after reinstatement (if customer has an ID, he/she must visit a driver services center for re-issuance of the driver’s license),

  • add emergency contacts,

  • update, replace or renew a regular driver's license,

  • and change an address, voter registration or advance a graduated driver’s license.

Mobile units and self-service kiosks only accept credit or debit card payments.

To take a road skills test, residents should make an appointment in the e-Services portal at a nearby, full-service Driver Services center, the release said.

  • Hart Lane Driver Services Center - 624 Hart Lane, Nashville, TN

Knowledge-based road skills tests can be taken online by 15-, 16- and 17-year-olds under a parent or guardian’s supervision through the Tennessee Proctor Identification app.
