Looking for mocktails in Fond du Lac? Here are 4 businesses offering specials this summer | Streetwise

FOND DU LAC – As the days get longer and hotter, people in Fond du Lac will be getting out more and more — and will be looking for some beverages to help cool off.

For some, nothing beats a cold beer or a fruity or spicy cocktail, and for others, a soda or lemonade suffice. But there are others who look for fun mixed drinks without alcohol, which are commonly known as "mocktails."

Bartenders can sling a virgin cocktail as well as its alcohol counterpart, and common mocktails like the Shirley Temple and the Roy Rogers are easy enough to order at a bar, but many bars also are getting creative with their alcohol-free options.

Here are four Fond du Lac bars and restaurants where you can find alcohol-free specials.

The Hive

At The Hive, W4786 State 23, owner Erika Daleiden organizes the business as an event center first and bar second, where drinkers and non-drinkers alike can have a wide variety of options when they're attending a wedding, corporate event, birthday party or other gathering.

"I want all of my guests to feel like they can have fun and meaningful social interactions and milestone events at The Hive whether they choose to drink or not," she said.

The Hive's non-alcoholic menu features Seedlip brand drinks, an alcohol alternative that uses distilled and blended botanical ingredients, as well as Ritual Zero Proof, which offer specific spirits alternatives, and Freixenet alcohol-removed sparkling wines.

Non-alcoholic beers include Athletic Brewing Co. beers, Lagunitas Hoppy Refreshers and non-alcoholic Busch Light, Heineken and Corona.

Daleiden's personal favorite drinks are a cran-orange mimosa using Freixenet and a lime margarita on the rocks featuring Ritual Zero Proof Tequila and non-alcoholic orange bitters from All the Bitter.

Additionally, Daleiden will offer mocktails and zero-proof drinks at this summer's Night Market, which kicks off June 29 on Main Street Plaza and Sheboygan Street.

The Coliseum Sports Bar & Grill

The Coliseum, 91 S. Main St., has four main mocktail specials, according to its Facebook page — starting with the Pixie Dust: blueberries muddled with fresh lemon and lavender simple syrup, topped with a dash of edible glitter.

The No-Jito resembles a classic mojito, with mint leaves muddled with lime and any other fruit of choice, while the Glimmer Punch mixes orange, cherry and cranberry with "a dash of shimmer and shine."

Finally, the Butterfly Affect Martini muddles passionfruit with butterfly pea flower tea, an herbal tea that brews into a blue color.

The Cellar District

The Cellar District, 40 E. Division St., also offers Athletic Brewing Co. non-alcoholic beers, as well as non-alcoholic Riesling and pinot noir wines, according to its website.

The Pineapple Mule Mocktail muddles pineapple, mint and lime together, topping the drink off with non-alcoholic ginger beer, and the Sparkling Pineapple Mocktail combines fresh pineapple, lemon-lime soda and grenadine.

Other drinks from the non-alcoholic offerings include lavender lemonade and an alcohol-free sunrise mimosa.

Copper Cock Tavern

Copper Cock Tavern, 30 N. Main St., offers a number of craft cocktails and mules, including its own old-fashioned, but also has three of its own mocktail creations.

Its virgin Bloody Mary uses the Seedlip brand, specifically its Garden 108 blend, which uses peas and the herbs rosemary, thyme and spearmint in its recipe.

The other two mocktails use Clean Co. spirit alternatives, with the Clean G gin alternative for the Clean G and T and the Clean R rum alternative for the Clean & Stormy, replacing the gin and tonic and Dark 'n Stormy, respectively.
