Although summer is coming to a close, there are still events in the Central Illinois area taking place that offer entertainment and activities for those looking for something to do.

Here are some things to do this fall season in Central Illinois.

Knox County Scenic Drive

The Knox County Scenic Drive is a self-guided car tour celebrating the county’s rural heritage on the first two weekends in October.

The event includes demonstrations, live music, crafts and food vendors and highlights both historical points of interest in the county and rural Midwestern views amid the changing colors of fall.

The Knox County Scenic Drive coincides with the Spoon River Drive in neighboring Fulton County.

Central States Threshermen's Reunion

Beginning Aug. 31, the annual Central States Threshermen's Reunion will be taking place over the Labor Day weekend at Threshermen's Park on Illinois 23 north of Pontiac.

Beginning in 1949, the second oldest steam event in the country is undertaking its 75th gathering of steam engines and other events, including the 37th J.I. Case Heritage Expo.

The annual parade will take place on Sunday, Sept. 3, through downtown Pontiac. The parade steps off at 1:15 p.m.

Prime Beef Festival

Monmouth's major celebration for the year is the Warren County Prime Beef Festival, which many locals call the “Fall Festival.” Located at Monmouth Park just off U.S. 34, the first day of the festival is Wednesday, Sept. 6, and runs through Sept. 9. The festival kicks off with a parade through downtown Monmouth and past Monmouth College at 5 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 9, will be the busiest day as it includes Kid's Day, a car show, the Power Wheels Demo for kids ages 4-9 and a demolition derby in the evening to close out the festival.

Harvest Days

Harvest Days will be taking place for the 44th time in Dwight, Illinois. It will take place Sept. 21-24.

One of the features of this annual festival is the parade through the downtown area. The parade features the annual basset waddle, where basset hounds entertain parade goers with their waddling along the parade route.

Among the live music shows taking place will be Hunter Kivlehan at the Old Depot on Thursday, Radium City Rebels will be on the Main Stage on Friday with two performances and No Decision will cap a day full of activities on the Main Stage on Saturday.

Octoberfest celebrations

Two Octoberfest events are scheduled to take place in downtown Lexington in September. On Sept. 16, the Kemp's Upper Tap Octoberfest Bash will take place in the city parking lot between City Hall and Kemp's from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be love music, as well as Octoberfest beverages and an all-German menu.

On Sept. 23, Octoberfest at Analytical Brewing will be taking place from 3 to 8 p.m. German food will be available from during the festival and polka music will be played from 5 to 7 p.m.
