Looking for something to do in Newport this summer? Here's your guide to can't miss events

Summer in Newport is in full swing, and it's nearly time for some of the city’s big ticket events to kick off.

While some of the city’s largest events, such as the Ocean Race stopover, have come and gone, many of the city’s biggest and most iconic events happen in the height and heat of the summer and offer a little something for everyone from locals to visitors.

Open your calendar app on your phone because here's a look at some of the major events happening in Newport this summer:

Newport Flower Show

June 23 - June 25Marble House, 596 Bellevue Ave.

Due to restoration projects at the Rosecliffe, this year’s Newport Flower Show will be held at Marble House. The Preservation Society of Newport County’s annual flower showcase’s theme this year is “The Grand Tour,” inspired by traveling in the 18th and 19th centuries. The floral designs will be based on a variety of themes, such as Wonders of the World, Bon Voyages, Versailles, the Alps and Venice. Tickets range from $50 to $64 and more information on the event itself is available on the Preservation Society’s website.

Newport Pride Ride and Festival

June 24 from noon to 6 p.m.The Great Friends Meeting House, 21 Farewell St

Newport’s annual LGBTQ+ Pride event will be held on the lawn in front of the Great Friends Meeting House for the second year in a row. The festivities begin with the Pride Ride bike parade, which kicks off in front of the Great Friends Meeting House at noon and takes a 2-mile loop around the city. The festival, featuring vendors and performances, will last until 6 p.m.

Newport Fourth of July Fireworks

July 4 at approximately 9:15 p.m.Newport Harbor

The city’s annual fireworks display is easiest to view on a westward-facing spot along Newport Harbor, with Perotti Park, King Park and Queen Anne’s Square serving as the most popular locations to watch the display. The rain date is July 5.

Newport Dance Festival

July 18-23 at 7:30 p.m.The Great Friends Meeting House, 21 Farewell St

Newport Contemporary Ballet will present performances from their performers and the performers from five visiting dance companies: Boston Dance Theater, Dark Circles Contemporary Dance, Tom Gold Dance, Anniela Huidobro and Breathing Art Company. All performances will be held starting at 7:30 p.m. in front of the Great Friends Meeting House. Tickets range from $39 to $185.

Hellenic Fest

July 14-16St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames St.

This annual festival dating back to 1983 celebrates Greek culture with food, drinks, music and dancing. Performers include live performances from the Athenian Greek Entertainment Orchestra and the Newport Hellenic Dancers. Admission is free.

International Tennis Hall of Fame Open

July 16-23

The International Tennis Hall of Fame, 194 Bellevue Ave.

Top professionals from the ATP Tour will return to Newport this year for the annual Infosys Hall of Fame Open. It’s the only tournament outside of Europe played on a grass court and is the only opportunity for tennis fans to watch professional men's tennis in the Northeast before the US Open. Tickets this year start at $13 and can be purchased on the event website.

Newport Classical Music Festival

July 4-23Around Newport

Newport’s annual Classical Music Festival hosts classic music performances across the city over the course of the month of July. Although some of the big ticket concerts have already sold out, such as the annual Opera Night at The Breakers, which features music from Mozart’s 1790 Italian opera buffa Così fan tutte, several of the concerts throughout the month still have tickets available. Newport Folk Festival

July 28-30Fort Adams State Park, 90 Fort Adams Drive

One of the city’s largest, most well-known events of the summer, the Newport Folk Festival has returned to Fort Adams for another weekend of music and festivities. This year, the sold-out festival’s lineup includes heavy hitters such as Lana Del Rey and Orville Peck.

Newport Jazz Festival

Aug. 4-6Fort Adams State Park, 90 Fort Adams Drive

The second major weekend of the summer, Newport Jazz Festival, still has some tickets available although they are running out. Like its sister event, Newport Folk Festival, the Jazz festival is an iconic weekend of music and fun at Fort Adams State Park.

September 14 - 17Newport Yachting Center Marina, 4 Commercial Wharf

One of the largest boat shows in the country, the Newport International Boat Show hosts hundreds of new power boats and sailboats from exhibitors, dealers and manufacturers from all over the globe. Tickets are $40, or $31 for early birds, and more information can be found on the boat show’s website.
