Looking for something to do over Memorial Day weekend? Here's seven South Jersey options

Memorial Day will be celebrated on May 29 this year.

There will be parades, festivals, some fireworks, and other celebrations, honoring those who lost their lives serving our country. And it also marks the beginning of summer (not officially) for many across the state with the Jersey Shore being the destination of choice.

While the weather is expected to be a little cloudy over the Memorial Day weekend, the temperatures in South Jersey are expected to be in the 70s, with a high of 76 on Memorial Day, so it will be a chance to get outside and take advantage of the weather.

Here are seven things to do this Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 28 and 29.

Adjacent Music Festival, Atlantic City

Two days, more than 40 bands.

The Adjacent Music Festival will take place May 27 and May 28 and feature Blink-182 and Paramore as the headliners.

Other performers include: Coheed and Cambria, Jimmy Eat World, Japanese Breakfast, Turnstile, The Starting Line, IDLES, PUP, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Beach Bunny, Motion City Soundtrack, Neil Rubenstein, Oxymorrons, Pinkshift, Phantom Planet, Royal & The Serpent, Scowl, Siiickbrain, Waterparks and Zulu and more.

Ticket prices start at $99 on up.

Good Dog Bar, Atlantic City

Maybe pay a visit to the second location of this eatery and bar, which opened on May 17.

The original location has been in Philadelphia for 20 years. The bar is known for its “lively and hip atmosphere” and for welcoming four-legged friends.

The 5000-square foot, 96 seat venue, which has been completely renovated, features two pooch-themed floors with two full-sized bars and a second-floor game room.

The menu is focused on locally sourced, fresh food. It includes wings, brined for 48 hours before being cooked, and burgers hand-stuffed with Roquefort, signature dishes like the Good Dog Burger, poke bowls, banh mi and daily specials focused on locally sourced seafood.

Gospel Folk Music in the Park, Martin Luther King Park, Salem

This free concert by Salem County Gospel Folk singer John Keith Davis will feature a new set of traditional and original gospel songs he hasn’t performed publicly in 2023. A love offering will also be received for Cornerstone Women’s Resource Center of Salem. The date is May 27 and time is 3 to 4 p.m.

New Jersey Renaissance Faire, Columbus

This rain or shine event features a "magical" cast that, along with independent performers and a village of artisans. This faire promises to put a unique spin on the tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight through drama, music, action, and adventure.

The faire, located at the Burlington County Fairgrounds, is May 27-29, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

42nd Annual May Fair, Collingswood

Multiple stages will feature live music, including blues, rock, folk and more.

More than 200 artists and crafters, a children’s “KidZone”, with rides, carnival games, children-friendly crafters, an antique and classic auto show.

The fair, held in the business district along Haddon Avenue, is May 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rain date is May 29.

Several food courts will be available as well as the downtown restaurants.

Parking is available in the PATCO lots and on side streets. Haddon Avenue will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 a.m.

P eter Pan and the Pirates at the Historic Smithville Fantasy Adventure Fest, Galloway

On May 27 and 28 at Historic Smithville, Peter Pan and the Pirates will play. It includes actors from Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company along with children from the community. The Suzanne Cloud Jazz Trio will perform songs from the Broadway show Peter Pan in between shows. There is free admission.

Wildwoods International Kite Festival, Wildwood

Go fly a kite. The colorful festival is something to behold. A four-day experience that begins on May 26, with the official Unlocking of the Beach ceremony and goes through May 29, with the World Indoor Kite Competition and Performance.

It takes place both inside the Wildwoods Convention Center and on the beach at Rio Grand Avenue and draws people of all ages. It’s free to spectators.
