Newport String Project concerts

The Newport String Project will hold the third installment of its Newport County Concert Series on Saturday at the Jamestown Arts Center and Sunday at Trinity Church in Newport featuring its resident ensemble, the Newport String Quartet, performing works by Still, Frank, De Elías and D’Rivera.

This event will feature vibrant chamber music from Spanish-speaking regions of the globe. From a musical homage to Don Quixote to a rarely heard Mexican masterpiece, Panamanian dances to a Cuban huapango, audiences won’t want to miss this celebration of Latin America.

Both concerts will begin at 3 p.m. Tickets range in price from $20 to $35 and can be purchased in advance at newportstringproject.org/

Come dancing in red

Learn how to dance and help the American Heart Association at Friday's Rhythm is Going to Get you social dance event.

Doors open at the Common Fence Point Community Center, 933 Anthony Road, Portsmouth, at 6:45 p.m., with a complimentary lesson at 7:45 p.m. Dancing continues until 10 p.m.

Entry is $20 with $5 going to the American Heart Association. Payment is only accepted at the door.

Take Your Child to the Library Day

Celebrate Take Your Child to the Library Day at the Portsmouth Library on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

As libraries across the country celebrate, families are invited to check out the Children’s Library. There will also be scavenger hunts, bookmarks and Valentine’s crafts for this special day.

After being closed in January The Chanler at Cliff Walk's hot chocolate bar returns this weekend on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. through March 24.

Enjoy an afternoon beside the cozy, crackling fire pit, or take a leisurely winter stroll along the picturesque Cliff Walk, all while indulging in a luxurious cup of hot chocolate. The artisanal hot chocolate is meticulously crafted, offering a choice of creamy milk or sumptuous dark chocolate. For those looking to elevate their experience, we offer the option to upgrade to an adult version.

No reservations are necessary, and complimentary parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis and the bar is weather-dependent.
