Looking to get spooked this Halloween? Here's where you can do that in central Kansas
For many people, getting scared is part of the Halloween season, and central Kansas has a few options for those looking to get their spook on this year.
Studies have shown that people who intentionally go to places like a haunted house do so and experience enjoyment. In one such study, even those who were considered "white-knucklers" or people who avoid fear, participated alongside "adrenaline junkies" in a haunted house experience "with consumer satisfaction remains relatively similar across the two groups."
So, for those looking for the potentially enjoyable experience of being scared this Halloween season, here's a few places that can make that happen in central Kansas.
Smoky Hill Hollow haunted house
What: A haunted house experience by Saline County Rural Fire District No. 3.
When: From 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 20 and 21, Oct. 27 and 28.
Where: Hedville Fire Station, 2911 N. Hedville Road.
Admission and more information: The Smoky Hill Hollow charges a $5 donation per person.
Falun Salemsborg Lutheran Parish Haunted Trail
What: One of the longest haunted trails in central Kansas.
When: Beginning at dark through 11 p.m. on Oct. 21, 27 and 28.
Where: Falun Salemsborg Lutheran Parish, 3831 W. Salemsborg Road, Smolan.
Admission and more information: Cost is $10 donation cash only. Chili feed also available for $5 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Zombie Expedition
What: A paintball experience set in a "zombie apocalypse" where guests shoot paintball ammo at "real life zombies."
When: Expeditions begin at 7:30 p.m. and go until final ticket sales at 11 p.m. Oct. 13 and 14, Oct. 20 and 21, Oct. 27, 28 and 29.
Where: 7928 S. Old Highway 81, Assaria.
Admission and more information: General admission is $20 and includes 100 rounds of ammo. Fast Pass admission is $25 which gives holder a specific time slot. Additional paintballs can be purchased on site.
Geisler Mansion
What: Haunted house experience from special effects makeup artist, Venus Geisler in Cawker City.
When: 7:30 p.m. to midnight, Oct. 27 and 28.
Where: 815 First St. Cawker City.
Admission and more information: Admission is $10 per person
