Traditionally speaking, Thanksgiving dinner is not complete without dessert.

For those who celebrate the holiday, the pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cheesecake, apple pie and other sweet treats are just as vital as a plump turkey or ham to make a true family Thanksgiving feast.

If you’re a baker, there’s nothing to whipping up something sweet for your guests. If not, it’s OK.

The Rockford area is full of bakeries that offer special Thanksgiving dessert menus. Here’s some of our favorites.

Mary’s Market

Mary’s extensive Thanksgiving dessert menu includes a host of pies: apple, cherry, caramel apple, coconut cream, chocolate cream, pecan and deep-dish pumpkin. There's also cheesecake, cookies, pumpkin bars and pumpkin pie squares.

Upper Crust Bakery

Upper Crust’s sweet treat menu includes an array of cakes, fruit pies, cream pies, cookies, biscottis, brownies and bars. Orders can be made online, or by calling 815-962-0211.

Sugarjones

Sugarjones is one of the area’s go-to places for a variety of cupcakes, cookies and pies. The Loves Park bakery is offering six pies this Thanksgiving: traditional pumpkin, peanut butter cream, cherry Dutch apple, French silk and key lime.

At 6336 E. Riverside Blvd., Sugarjones is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday. The bakery's phone number is 815-708-0801. Pre-order deadline is Friday, Nov. 17. Pickup is Nov. 21-22.

Wonderland Sweets

At 1408 North Main St., Rockford, Wonderland Sweets features a Thanksgiving pie selection that includes pumpkin, bourbon pecan and Dutch apple. There’s also cheesecake, pumpkin cake, cupcakes, scones and more.

The shop is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday; 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Sunday. Orders can be placed online or by calling 815-978-7874.

By the Dozen Bakery

Known for fresh donuts and cookies, By the Dozen also offers a selection of fresh pies. The Machesney Park bakery's menu incudes pumpkin, pecan, apple blueberry, cherry, peach and a variety of cream and silk pies. The bakery also offers custom cakes.

Orders can be placed by calling 815-636-0668 or visiting the By the Dozen website. The bakery is at 8324 N. Second St., Machesney Park. Hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Bezzie’s Home Bakery

Bezzie's is a self-serve bakery known for its buttercream sugar cookies, dessert bars, and cupcakes. Seasonal items include pumpkin bars, pecan pie bars, lemon blueberry cake and gingerbread bars.

Orders can be placed online and by email. The bakery's Thanksgiving pop up sale is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 104 N. Westwood Ave., Freeport.

Quixotic Bakery

Quixotic Bakery's Thanksgiving menu features cookies, pies, bars, fantails and cinnamon rolls. The bakery also offers dinner rolls and honey butter yeast rolls. Order online or by calling 815-209-9730. Orders must be placed by Nov. 18.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. Quixotic Bakery is at 116 N. Madison St., Rockford, inside the City Market building.

Nothing Bundt Cakes

Rockford's Nothing Bundt Cakes offers more than two dozen holiday desserts, including three specialty Thanksgiving cakes: Give Thanks, Thankful Turkeys Bundtinis and Fall Leaves Bundtinis.

Crust & Crumbles

Crust & Crumble is known for its breakfast, lunch and fresh bread, along with a daily selection of cookies, pastries, scones and muffins.

The downtown Rockford eatery is at 116 N. Madison St. Holiday hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday through Friday (7 a.m. to 7 p.m., every first and third Friday), and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday. The phone number 815-315-0960.

Mac Bothers Cheesecakes

The selection of cheesecake at the award-winning Mac Brother's Cheesecakes is nearly endless. Passionfruit, peanut butter, pistachio, raspberry, strawberry, cherry and salted caramel are just some of the flavors on the menu.

Halo Bakeshop

Halo Bakeshop offers an extensive assortment of cakes, cupcakes, bars, and special holiday pies and other sweet treats. Orders an be placed online or by calling 815-282-1225.

Orders available for pickup, delivery and shipping. Halo is at 7969 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m., Tuesday; noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.

Pinnon Meats

Pinnon's catering menu includes a selection of Rice Krispie treats, S'mores, brownies, pumpkin bars and cookies. Cookie flavors include ginger cream, chocolate crinkle, chocolate chip, peanut butter and oatmeal raisin. You can also get pies from Pinnon's as well if you call in advance.
