Summer reading program kickoff events at local libraries

Greenhorn Valley Library, 4801 Cibola Drive in Colorado City, noon to 4 p.m. Friday | Rawlings Library, 100 E. Abriendo Ave., 4-7 p.m. Friday | The event will feature food, fun and a special meet and greet with the popular cartoon character Bluey in Pueblo. A bounce house, snow cones and activities are planned in Colorado City. Both events are free and open to all ages. For details, visit pueblolibrary.org.

Summer Kickoff BBQ at El Centro del Quinto Sol

609 E. Sixth St. | noon to 2 p.m., swimming at Mineral Palace Park Pool, 3-5 p.m. | This family-fun kickoff to the summer season will feature a hotdog meal while supplies last, rock painting and a rededication of the rock garden, plus swimming at Mineral Palace Park Pool. The first 25 children age 17 and younger get in free. Swimming permission slips must be filled out by a parent/guardian prior to the swim trip. For details, email jplascencia@pueblo.us.

'Wedded to Art' at Steel City Art Works

216 S. Union Ave. | 5-8 p.m. | This First Friday Art Walk event will feature a "Wedded to Art" opening reception with complimentary refreshments, a three-dimensional mixed media art show in the back room and a book signing with "A Breath of Fresh God" author Charissa Fryberger. The exhibits will be on display all month.

Havana Night anniversary gala at Sangre de Cristo Arts Center

210 N. Santa Fe Ave. | Cocktails at 6 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m. | The 51st annual anniversary gala will celebrate inspiration, education and creativity as key components of Pueblo's cultural and economic vitality. Acts include the jaw-dropping Wheel of Death, mystifying MAGIC and more. Show is suggested for a mature audience, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All Nations Festival at St. Francis Xavier Church

1725 Spruce St. | 5-11 p.m. June 3, and again from noon to 10 p.m., June 4 | The festival will feature music, family fun and food. Severo y Grupo Fuego will perform from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, and New Mexico's Gonzalo will perform from 6-10 p.m. Sunday.

Colorado Natives Animal Ambassador Visit at Pueblo West Library

298 S. Joe Martinez Blvd. | 10 a.m. to noon | Nature's Educators will give an hourlong presentation with Colorado native animal ambassadors, including a raptor, rabbit, snake, salamander and tarantula. There will be snow cones, face painting, balloon animals and crafts. Participants can receive an animal-themed Early Literacy Kit2go while supplies last. This event is free. Joe Gatto's Night of Comedy at Pueblo Memorial Hall

1 City Hall Place | Doors open at 6 p.m., show at 7 p.m. | Joe Gatto, comedian, actor and producer best known for the hit TV shows “Impractical Jokers” and “The Misery Index," will present his live comedy show. The cohost for the “Two Cool Moms” podcast is father to two children and an ever-growing pack of rescue dogs affectionately known as the “Gatto Pups.” Tickets range from $39.75 to $114.75 and are on sale at pueblomemorialhall.com.

Punk show blow-out at Blo Back Gallery

131 Spring St. | 6-10 p.m. Friday and 7-11 p.m. Saturday | Friday's performers will be Radio Fry, Brown Noise, Sun Dog, Punch Your Boss and P.I.D, and cost is $5 at the door or online at Innocentsinners.com. Saturday's performers include Cleanse the Destroyer opening for Used Up as well as Glass Helix, Hate Season, and MUSUJI, and cost is $10. Both shows open to all ages.

Pueblo Levee Walk at Midtown Shopping Center

1000 W. Sixth St. | 7-11 a.m., food trucks | 7:20 a.m., walk and run | 9 a.m., Zumba class | The Pueblo Downtown Association is sponsoring the event. A free shuttle will transport attendees from the shopping center to the Arkansas River Trail access point. Water stations will be available. Proceeds from the event’s sponsorships will go toward supporting the Downtown Streetscape Program, including flowers, lighting, safety and security. Find out more at pueblodowntown.com.

Car Show at Walter's Brewing Company

126 Oneida St. | noon-4 p.m. | The second annual car show will feature a car competition, Bierocks Potatoes & More, Rock Ya Belly and Puff Puffette Pass food trucks, beer specials, Walter's swag giveaways and live music by Mark's Midnight Carnival Show. Admission is free and door prizes will be awarded. People's choice awards are presented at 4 p.m.: $150 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third. Entry cost is $50 per car or $60 after June 8. Registration is accepted at the taproom or via phone at 719-542-0766.

Flag Retirement Ceremony at Bank of the San Juans

68 N. MucCulloch Blvd., Pueblo West | 8:30 p.m. | The American Legion, VFW and local Boy Scouts will host a flag retirement ceremony for American flags that have become tattered or soiled in honor of Flag Day. Residents can bring flags for disposal at any Pueblo or Pueblo West Bank of the San Juans through Friday, June 9.

Saturday, June 17

Bus to Cripple Creek departing from North Side Kmart

3415 N. Elizabeth | 8:30 a.m. | The Armijo Family Reunion Committee will sponsor the Cripple Creek fundraiser bus trip. The bus will leave the North Side Kmart parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and depart Cripple Creek at 4 p.m.  There will be a 50/50 raffle, bingo, drinks, snacks and small prize giveaways.
