Looking for a unique paint-and-sip experience? Sustainable art trailer to open in Old Sacramento

A zero-waste, solar-powered mobile art cafe will open Friday in Old Sacramento offering visitors “art, not food.”

The cafe plans to provide “inclusive art activities” to communities across the Sacramento region. Artgoers can also order locally-brewed KC Kombucha for a unique paint-and-sip experience.

The cafe is built out of a 1950s horse trailer and is powered by solar panels. It was designed by Sacramento artist Mike Jones, and funded in part by a grant from SMUD, the Sacramento Metropolitan Utility District, as a part of its zero-carbon plan.

The cafe provides painting activities on canvas and canvas tote bags, as well as offers lessons on sustainability.

The cart can be found at community events or can be booked for day or evening events. The cafe is run by Atrium 916, a nonprofit organization.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Friday along the embarcadero on the J Street River Overlook. The first 30 attendees will enjoy a free paint-and-sip experience.
