My family recently took a group to 219 Broad Street Mixed Cuisine in Murfreesboro.
Ever heard of it? Likely you haven't, because it's not located on one of the main shopping corridors in town.
But it should not be overlooked.
Formerly known as Gondolier, the restaurant changed hands in August 2018 and rebranded as 219 Broad Street Mixed Cuisine.
The name is derived from the street address, 219 N.W. Broad St., and its varied menu. If you have a picky eater or nobody can agree on what type of food to eat, 219 Broad Street may be the solution. It's cliché but true — there's something for everyone.
On the menu
You'll find all your favorite pub-style appetizers, traditional American fare, a wide selection of Asian dishes, Italian food, a full-service bar (with a happy hour) and sushi bar.
Lasagna? They've got it. House-made pizza and calzones? Yep. Chicken wings and burgers? Check. Pad Thai, pho and handmade eggrolls? Check mark.
Our table got a sampling of the menu.
The egg rolls are spot on, with a flaky and flavorful crust filled with chicken and veggies. A friend's mom made homemade egg rolls for us sometimes, and these are like hers. The combo appetizer platter gave us a chance to try some of the other fried favorites.
The house special —beef, pepperoni, ham, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions and cheese — was a toss-up. Some of us liked it while others were uninspired. I think it comes down to the crust. 219's is a thin, hand-tossed crust. But I'm an opportunist and enjoyed leftovers for breakfast the next day.
Stir fry with chicken and vegetables was good but very basic and suited the picky eaters at our table well.
In my opinion, the best thing going for 219 Broad Street is the sushi. Everything is hand made, to order. This is no fast-food sushi.
My son is the sushi fiend, although his sister and I like it a lot, too. Everything we ordered was fresh, high quality and beautifully plated. And the prices are cheaper than grocery store sushi (gasp).
And on Tuesdays, regular sushi rolls are $5 and two regular rolls are $8.99 on Wednesdays.
Prices for the rest of the menu items are also very reasonable in my opinion. Most meals range from $10 to $15.
Be sure to save room for dessert. Apparently there's a bona fide baker in the kitchen. A glass case out front spotlights beautiful cakes, pies and confections that look almost too pretty to eat. But, they are quite edible and delicious.
The restaurant is also a perfect place for larger parties — like ours — and group meetings, with a separate room that can be closed off. Catering is also available.
You can find the restaurant on Facebook or call 615-396-8484. Online ordering is available on the website, 219broadstreetmixedcuisine.com. For more details or catering information, you can also email VPfarms@comcast.net.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
