Looking for work? Volusia County hiring dozens of lifeguards as beach season ramps up

A Central Florida community is hoping to fill more than 100 lifeguard positions, and using incentives such as higher pay and cash incentives.

However, the solution may not come in time for Spring Break crowds.

Volusia County needs to fill about 150 open positions by summer. And with Spring Break and Bike Week crowds already making their way to the coast, the county’s beach safety ocean rescue team said it’s already all hands on deck.

New hires will get a $500 sign-on bonus, and their pay has gone up to $15 an hour.

However, hires must first pass a class, and beach safety officials said that has been a challenge for recent recruits.
