Tired of being cooped up by the snow and cold? Despite the frosty air, the weekend (and beyond) will heat up with the opening of "tick, tick ... Boom!" by late "Rent" creator Jonathan Larson, art exhibit debuts by Carmen Ostermann and AdaObinna Moore, poetry at Third Way Cafe and more.

You also can satisfy your sweet tooth at the Columbus Chocolate, Wine & Whiskey Festival, have a few laughs at a "Golden Girls" trivia night, or stop in at Natalie's Grandview, where musical theater is on the menu with “Go Big, Go Broadway!”

Rock musical comes to Galena

Curtain Players will present “tick, tick... Boom!,” the autobiographical rock musical by Jonathan Larson, the creator of “Rent,” about a young theater composer waiting tables in 1990 at a New York City diner while writing what he hopes will be the next great American musical. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as Feb. 3-4 and Feb. 10-11; and 2 p.m. Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, at 5691 Harlem Road, Galena. Tickets cost $20, or $18 for students and senior citizens. Whatever your favorite indulgence, you're likely to find it at the Columbus Chocolate, Wine & Whiskey Festival, held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at COSI, 333 W. Broad St. Treat yourself to unlimited samples of truffles, artisan chocolates, cakes and cookies, or head over to the S'Mores Bar for toasted marshmallows on chocolate graham crackers. Samples of beer, wine, hard cider, whiskey and other spirits are also unlimited, and Boozy Milkshakes are also included. Items will also be available for sale to take home. For 21 and older only. Chamber music to celebrate local composer

The internationally recognized Cavani String Quartet and soprano Louise Toppin will be the artists featured in the debut performance of a new piece by Columbus composer Mark Lomax II, “A Prayer for Love.” The concert — presented by Chamber Music Columbus, which is in the midst of its 75th anniversary season — will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Southern Theatre, 21 E. Cinematic tribute to the press

Extra, extra, read all about it: This year, the Gateway Film Center, 1550 N. High St., will examine the depiction of journalism in the movies. The series will kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday with a reception, panel discussion and finally a screening, using a 35mm print of Alan J. Pakula’s classic movie “All the President’s Men,” an adaptation of the famous Watergate chronicle by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein (played in the film by Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman). Other screenings in the series include the documentary “Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes” (April 27) and Howard Hawks’ newspaper comedy “His Girl Friday” (July 27). Tickets cost $15. Marvel at ornate bird sculptures

The Priscilla R. Tyson Columbus Cultural Arts Center, 139 W. Main St., will present "I Am One of Those Animals," the solo debut exhibit of clay sculptor Carmen Ostermann, who says her ornate depiction of birds "juxtaposes the beauty of the environment and the harm being inflicted upon." The exhibit will open Friday with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. and be on display through March 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Mondays; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Time-travel with Nexus Saxophone Quartet

Sunday at Central will present "Around the World of Time," a free concert by the Nexus Saxophone Quartet at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ohio History Center, 800 E. 17th St. Featuring Ryan Alexis (soprano sax), Rob Cebriak (alto sax), Don Nathan (tenor sax) and Matt Guirreri (baritone sax), the ensemble will perform a world-premiere piece by HyeKyung Lee (Denison University), plus works by composers Scott Joplin, Wilhelm Ramsøe, Joplin, Jean Rivier and others. Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis. The concert is recommended for ages 9 and older. (sundayatcentral.org/)

Sotto Terra at the Sanctuary, 610 Neil Ave., will have you singing "Thank You for Being a Friend" at 8 p.m. on Friday, when "The Golden Girls" Trivia Night kicks off. Musical theater lovers are in for a treat! On Friday at 8 p.m., Honey and Blue singer Stephanie Amber will host “Go Big, Go Broadway!” at Natalie’s Grandview, 945 King Ave. Attendees will hear selections by Tony winner Levi Kreis, Broadway’s Thom Warren, Mojoflo’s Amber Knicole and jazz vocalist Sydney McSweeney. Poets take over Third Way Cafe

Literary arts group DiVerses is hosting accomplished poets Violeta Orozco and Hussain Ahmed at Third Way Cafe, 3058 W. Broad St, on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Ahmed is a Nigerian poet, translator and environmentalist, who will read from his latest collection, “Soliloquy with the Ghosts in Nile.” Orozco is a diasporic bilingual poet, spoken word performance artist and translator, who will share her latest work. Artist makes debut at Streetlight Guild

Streetlight Guild will show Columbus artist AdaObinna Moore’s first exhibit, “IJOMAH: The Journey of ADAOBI,” beginning Saturday at 6 p.m. “My goal as an artist is to grow and to gain confidence in who I title myself to be,” Moore said in a statement. “In my work, I reflect a lot on my Nigerian background which helps me stay in tune with my roots.” The exhibit will remain at the gallery, located at 1367 E. Main St., through March 18. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided. (streetlightguild.org)
