Looney's Prepares For Bel Air St. Patrick's Day Celebration

BEL AIR, MD — A Bel Air business asked vehicle owners to move their cars from its parking lot so it could prepare Tuesday for its St. Patrick's Day celebration.

The large St. Patrick's Day event is back on this year at Looney's Pub in Bel Air, after two years of scaling back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In March 2020, Looney's postponed its St. Paddy's event after Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan prohibited gatherings of more than 250 people due to COVID-19.

For 2022, St. Patrick's Day falls on a Thursday. Instead of a celebration over a few days, Looney's will hold days of festivities across two weekends.

The Harford County Liquor Control Board approved the pub's plans to serve alcohol in tents outside its establishment March 12, 13, 17 and 18.

"It's not any different from past events," Harford County Liquor Board Special Projects Coordinator Judi Powell said at the board's Feb. 23 meeting where the plan was approved.

To install tents for the festivities, the business needs to clear out the parking lot in the 300 block of South Main Street.

Normally, Looney's officials say they encourage people to park in their lot. But on Tuesday, the business said drivers of several vehicles were still in the lot.

"We’ve had signs up for 2 days," officials said. "These cars are on our lot and need to be moved asap," Looney's Pub posted on its Facebook page, with pictures of a Mazda, Chevrolet and an SUV that needed to be moved. "We will work around them as long as we can."
