Loons developmental team adds young Honduran center back Geremy Rodas

Minnesota United 2, the MLS club’s developmental team, has acquired 18-year-old left-sided center back Geremy Rodas from Honduran club Lobos UPNFM.

A member of Honduras’ under-20 national team, Rodas will join MNUFC2 on a loan through July, with the Loons having an option to buy Rodas’ rights from Lobos, a top-flight club in the Liga Nacional.

The Loons have had success in Honduras with first-team midfielders Kervin Arriaga and Joseph Rosales, and are looking for more talent from the Central American country.

MNUFC2 said Thursday they will retain the following players for the 2023 season: goalkeeper Alec Smir; defenders Jason Romas and CC Uche; midfielders Emmanuel Iwe, Molik Jesse Khan, Juan Mosquera and Diogo Pacheco. They have no forwards on their current roster.

MNUFC2 has moved on from Tommy Williamson, Sagir Arce, Ignacio Gutierrez, Nick Mendonca and Veljko Petkovic.
