'Lord Of The Rings' Series On Amazon Has Cast Its First Actor

The first actor to sign on for Amazon's "Lord of the Rings" series has been cast, and you may not have heard of her.

Kavenagh the First Casting For LOTR

Markella Kavenagh, an Australian actress, will play a character named Tyra on the streaming service's series.

Kavenagh has been seen in Picnic At Hanging Rock and The Cry And Romper Stomper, a BBC miniseries.

That's a Lot Of Precious Money

In 2017, Amazon forked over $250 million for the rights to "Lord of the Rings," an adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien classic about Middle Earth. The show will be set in the Second Age, when Lord Sauron took power and the Rings of Power were created.

There's a New Fantasy Series In Town

This new "Lord of the Rings" is confirmed to run for several seasons on Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform. Amazon has been gunning for a series to rival the success of HBO's Game Of Thrones.

Amazon hasn't released a statement on the news.
