On another nail-biting episode of Food Network's "Beachside Brawl,” Pensacola chef Edward Lordman received another sweet victory, allowing him to compete another week in Redondo Beach, California.

After three weeks of advancement on the show and hitting the halfway point in the series, Lordman is one dish closer to earning the grand prize of a $25,000 beach vacation and bragging rights for being crowned "Best of the Beach." Chefs are cooking on teams divided up by East vs. West Coast, but only one chef will win.

In Sunday night's episode, chefs were tasked with creating a dessert centered around "sugar high summer sweets," with each creating an elevated version of a classic boardwalk treat.

"You guys cannot call yourselves the best of the beach unless you can prove you're a master of the sweet stuff," said host Antonia Lofaso on the show.

Lordman decided to reinvent the carnival classic that is the funnel cake, while playing with the flavors that fall into the strawberry shortcake.

As he simmered his strawberries down with sugar and gin and blended a cream cheese whipped cream, Lordman reflected on the childhood memories that inspired the dish.

"I absolutely love funnel cake, it takes me back home," he said. "The reason why I wanted to go strawberry shortcake is because my grandma used to make strawberry cake every year for my birthday. So, this whole time in my head, I just really wanted to bring my grandmother through."

Lordman's concoction was so good it secured him a spot in the competition moving forward into next week.

"What you did, which I think is so magical, is you somehow combined two of the greatest boardwalk treats," Lofaso praised. "When you talk about innovating a funnel cake, how do you really innovate the funnel cake? That's how do you do it."

Tune in at 9 p.m. Sunday on the Food Network or discovery+ to watch the remainder of Lordman's journey unfold.
