Loretta Lynn was 'so tickled' Metallica covered her song
When Metallica played Nashville for the first time in a decade back in January, it added a country twist to its set with a cover of Loretta Lynn's "You're Looking at Country."
It turns out that not only was the 87-year-old "tickled" by the band's rendition, but she was there to witness it in person.
On the web series "Rockstars In Cars" from Cosmo Music, guitarist Kirk Hammett shared several fun stories about the "doodles" he and bassist Robert Trujillo perform during their shows, including a tidbit about Lynn.
"We were in Nashville and we played a Loretta Lynn song," Hammett said. "We played the song 'I’m Talking About Country.' In Nashville. A country song. I was playing country licks, the whole thing. It was pretty funny for me and Rob. When we played it, people recognized it. Not everyone, but enough people.
"But the important thing is the next day, got a message from Loretta Lynn, who said she was actually at the show with her family and was so tickled when we broke into her song! She said that, you know, she might think about covering one of our songs sometime, but in the meantime we should do more of her songs."

Hey, if Ozzy Osbourne, Post Malone and Travis Scott can collaborate on a banger, why not Metallica and Loretta Lynn?
Hammett elaborated on the choices of doodles, saying there were some "growing pains" for a while, but they've really hit their stride on the last few legs of their tour.
"We’re taking a chance and playing it in a stadium in front of 60,000 people, and we’re hoping that we made the right choice. ... There have been a few times where we go into a place and pick the wrong song, and people are going, 'huh?'
"But you know the thing is, and Rob and I always tell each other, if we pick a song and people don't recognize it, it's not the end of the world — as long as we play it well and are entertaining in the way we play it."
