The legacy of Kentucky-born Loretta Lynn will be recognized this weekend at a Butchertown bar and events space that reopened earlier this year.

The Whirling Tiger, which reopened in January at 1335 Story Ave., will host several artists Saturday night to perform songs by Lynn, the multi-Grammy winner country singer who died in October. McKinley Moore, who is producing the 8 p.m. show, said "this is really just a passion project for me."

Moore is from Paintsville and got the idea after he went to Lynn's old home in nearby Van Lear after her death. Her cousins had the house open that day "because they knew people would want to come and visit." When Moore saw the reception, he said, he knew he "wanted to do something to pay tribute to her and everything that she's done."

Tickets for the show are $20, when purchased online in advance or $25 at the entrance. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and people of all ages are welcome

The house band will be formed by Tyler Lance Walker Gill and the Wolfmen, along with Johnny Berry, Blakeley Burger, and Todd Hildreth, Moore said.

The list of performers includes Johnny Berry, Kathryn Brooks, Mary Brown Feiock, Tyler Lance Walker Gill, Lacey Guthrie, Maggie Halfman, Joe Manning, Christy O'Connell, Katie Peabody, Julia Purcell, Ellie Ruth, Joan Shelley, Sarah Teeple and Dane Waters.

Local event promoter Mark Evans announced last November he'd bought the former Whirling Tiger location at along with new co-owner Alley McDowell. The bar officially reopened on Jan. 22 with a performance by Houndmouth.

The Whirling Tiger, which replaced Odeon after that bar and concert space closed in 2021, had been open for less than a year before announcing its closure in late September.
