Loris man tosses handgun, satchel of drugs onto highway during pursuit, police say

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A Loris man is facing a felony drug trafficking charge after police said he tossed a fentanyl-laden satchel onto the highway during a pursuit.

Jaquez Lamar Williams, 19, was released Saturday morning from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center after posting bail on a $65,000 bond. He’s facing charges of trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute crank or crack cocaine; possession of narcotics, possession of a weapon during a violent crime; and failure to stop for a blue light.

An incident report says Williams failed to pull over for an Horry County police officer along Highway 701 in Loris at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday. Officers used a tire-deflating device at the Highway 9 Bypass, puncturing a tire.

Williams continued for a short distance, tossing two satchels out the passenger window, police said. The vehicle eventually stopped on Long Branch Swamp Road, where Williams was arrested without incident.

Within the bags were 60.7 grams of fentanyl, 1.4 grams of cocaine and 6.1 grams of methamphetamine, according to police documents. Police also recovered a handgun nearby.

Court information for Williams wasn’t immediately available.
