Lorraine Kelly praises the Queen's pallbearers

Lorraine Kelly has praised the pallbearers who carried the Queen's coffin during her funeral procession.

Posting an image on social media of the pallbearers walking the coffin into Westminster Abbey, she also praised the soldiers for their conduct during the ceremony.

The TV broadcaster wrote: "These lads were faultless - such a difficult duty carried out impeccably."

The pallbearers were also praised by journalist and broadcaster Dawn Neesom, who wrote on Twiter: "The pallbearers, Naval ratings pulling the gun carriage and military musicians did themselves proud. That was not an easy ask."

Radio presenter Cole Moreton was also complimentary: "Somebody buy those lads a beer, they've put in a hell of a shift."

Bestselling author of Me Before You, Jojo Moyes, was also in awe of the pallbearers, commenting: "The extraordinary choreography of it all, the drumbeat, the strangeness of so many watching over one tiny totemic female body, the pallbearers’ faces pressed against the coffin, Princess Charlotte’s swinging legs."

Jamie East tweeted: "BAFTA for the DoP, big hug to the pallbearers especially the poor lad sweating his arse off. When’s he going to pick up that bit of paper tho."

The coffin bearers for the Queen's funeral were from Queen's Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards of which the Queen was the company commander.

The Queen's Company will retain its name up until the monarch is laid to rest, and will later change to reflect the new King.

When the Queen died, the unit were deployed on active duty in Iraq but were called back to the UK for the funeral.

According to Ben Tubana, who is one of the pallbearers, each of the soliders were selected "solely on performance" and were asked to volunteer for the role.
