Los Angeles Non-Profit Delivers to Homeless From Inside Vehicle While Social Distancing
Shirley Raines handed out hamburgers, hand sanitizer and vitamin-C to the homeless of the Los Angeles’ Skid Row neighborhood from inside her vehicle on March 21 amid a call for Californians to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We managed to practice social distancing while still serving our homeless community,” Raines wrote on Twitter. She operates Beauty 2 the Streetz, which “aims to serve the homeless by providing necessities alongside the things that make us feel inherently human: a hot shower, a hearty meal, the hope-inducing feeling of looking in the mirror and loving what you see.”
Raines told Storyful she usually sets up tables on Saturdays in the neighborhood, but missed a weekend because “we thought it was best to keep the social distance and not set up tables.”
“The homeless contacted me via social media and said they were hungry, scared and alone,” Raines said, adding a company donated hand sanitizer and the group purchased 100 hamburgers.
