Is the Lost Leaf closing in downtown Phoenix? What's happening with the beloved art bar

The Lost Leaf is closed. Again.

The 1920s bungalow just south of Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix will be "closed for a few weeks for maintenance and business restructuring," said David Cameron, the real estate investor who purchased the beer and wine bar and art gallery in March 2022.

The plan is to reopen on First Friday in July, Cameron told The Arizona Republic.

The Lost Leaf shared the news Friday in an Instagram post that reads, "Hello all, the Lost Leaf will be closed June 8th through the rest of June for maintenance and upkeep. We are sad for the brief hiatus but looking forward to seeing you all soon!!!!"

Cameron also purchased and reopened Char's Has the Blues, a legendary Melrose District blues and R&B club, as Char's Live in February 2022.

How the Lost Leaf became a cherished part of Phoenix culture

The Lost Leaf was originally opened in 2006 by former owners Eric Dahl and Tato Caraveo when they moved their gallery into the bungalow from its original home above Emerald Lounge on Seventh Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix.

By the time Dahl sold the Lost Leaf, it was seen as a beloved haven for the city's art and music scenes.

When Cameron reopened the Lost Leaf, he told The Republic the goal was to make the business more successful than it was.

"Last week, everybody thought the Lost Leaf was closing. And now it's not. Shouldn't we all be out rejoicing with love and happiness?" he said in 2022. "Let's play some music and drink some beer and have a good time. That's what I want to do. Even though I don't drink liquor."
